Just received a gorgeous new book — Maureen O’Hara: The Biography — from the University Press of Kentucky. The author, film critic Aubrey Malone, does a nice job of capturing the professional and private personas of “The Queen of Technicolor.” I thought he would, based on his Proposal — which I read and reviewed for the publisher when Malone initially submitted it.
In the latest (September) issue of Orange Coast, I check in with Marc Masterson, artistic director of South Coast Repertory, as he reflects on the prestigious theatre company’s 50th anniversary.
And, in anticipation of the sobering 50th anniversary of the assassination of JFK (11/22/63), I’m in the midst of reading stacks of new books—for a review roundup piece I’ve been assigned. I’m sorting through myriad conspiracy theories and an intriguing cast of characters.
In the latest issue of Emmy magazine (the one with Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys of “The Americans” on the cover) I chat with Eric Christian Olsen – aka Marty Deeks of CBS’s “NCIS: Los Angeles” – and his stuntman-brother (and former Navy SEAL) David. For this one, I visited the series’ set at the Paramount lot, with Eric and David as my guides. Nice work if you can get it!
In the same issue, I check in with Showtime and its new documentary unit—which is taking aim at provocative subjects (Dick Cheney, anyone?). I’m looking forward to the upcoming docs on Richard Pryor and Suge Knight.
