John Stamos: proud O.C. boy and Disneyland fanatic

Got to speak to handsome and charming John Stamos for the December issue of Orange Coast, for the cover story “Growing Up in O.C.” The same piece includes my interviews with Olympic gold medalist swimmer Janet Evans, director Penelope Spheeris, actors Ted McGinley and Linda Emond, and singer Mark McGrath.

As I’m posting this on Turkey Day, I should point out that I’m thankful to have had so many bylines over the past year!

Still just as busy!

Orange County Confidential: Shadows amid all the sunshine

In  November’s issue of Orange Coast, I explore crime in O.C., via a 12-page spread – a compendium – that looks at significant cases, past and present; leading crime-solvers (including cold case investigator Larry Montgomery of the D.A.’s office and O.C. Crime Lab forensic scientist Mary Hong); local crime writers, and more.

What makes for a multi-million $$$$ home? A view doesn’t hurt

It was a tough assignment, but somebody had to do it — touring six absolutely amazing homes, all in South County (translation: coastal views) — with estimated values ranging from $12 million to $40 million. I’m still drooling!

Ever wonder who some of the folks are behind TV’s reality show blitz? See my piece in the August issue of Emmy, about Jenny Daly of T Group Productions. The company has sold more than 20 unscripted series over the past 18 months!

A Sisters in Crime/Mystery Writers of America mash-up

For the annual summertime joint meeting of Orange County Sisters in Crime and So-Cal Mystery Writers of America, we’re featuring an authors’ panel that will explore Asian themes in crime fiction. Should be an intriguing “wok on the wild side.”

Meet a producer of the genre-bending “Sleepy Hollow”

I watched a few episodes of Fox’s hit series “Sleepy Hollow” before checking in with Heather V. Regnier, a producer of the show, and subject of my piece in the current Emmy (second issue of the summer). Clever show, and very clever lady. Check out the piece and you’ll see what I mean …

Remote control: a TV director going from show to show

In the latest issue of Emmy, I interview Bethany Rooney, the prolific television director who’s helmed more than 200 hours of prime time. Her specialty is single-camera narrative: shows that are dramatic/performance dominated. Among her many credits: episodes of “Nashville” and “Criminal Minds.”
